Anger is like a Fire

Anger is like a fire, smoke, a warning light,
Its burning embers smoulder like molten rage.
We fuel and kindle our flames of inner wrath,
Like a fuming, injured tiger, locked in a cage.

We brew, we stew and then we spew,
Like a time-bomb, we detonate and explode,
Underground, we boil and steam with pressure,
Like an earthquake of red lava, we corrode.

Anger pollutes our deeply hidden roots,
We become agitated, irritated and frustrated.
We justify ourselves with excuses and blame,
Not realising our anger is Satan orchestrated.

Small things hook onto our unfinished wrath,
Catapulting and growing like a deadly poison.
Unresolved fumes that glow red with bitterness,
Leaving us vulnerable and tempted to sin.

Our sparked flames leave paths of destruction,
That reveal the brokenness inside of us.
When harboured, it damages and destroys,
While devilish demons wrestle inside of us.

Anger crouches at our door like Cain,
With a mind of its own, with no filter.
It makes us impulsive, passive to act,
Erupting, ignited, we burn on our altar.

We blow our offences out of proportion,
Venting our raging flares like a dragon.
But embers can cool and reason can rule,
When we release ourselves from this prison.

Anger should be our servant, not our master,
To own, accept and control it, not manage.
For anger that is buried alive, does not die,
Smouldering, we are left with eternal damage.

We need to cut those cords that bind us,
Separate from our enemy offenders.
Count to 10, knock down those tower bricks,
Those temporary, perpetuating offences.

For an angry mind makes a hard pillow,
And a restless sleep of displeasure.
Rivers of loud, angry waves of thought,
Conflict with our peace to full measure.

We waste our anger on fake news and false facts,
With punishment, penalty and pleading penance.
We must extinguish our anger and arguments,
If we ever want to restore our emotional balance.
