My DIY Hero

I’ve been blessed with a DIY husband,
Who can fix anything that is broken.
Whether it’s a leak, a glitch or a crack,
Fixing things is his talent and passion.

No gadget or toy is ever thrown to the bin,
For it’s repaired each time that it breaks.
He diligently, painstakingly learns how to,
And impresses me at the speed that he takes.

There’s no item he cannot fix or restore,
No challenge he will pay to have done.
Whether it’s electrical, mechanical or construction,
He’ll persevere with it until he has won.

For my hubby is my DIY hero,
Though it would often be nice to replace.
I’m grateful for his God-given talents,
So, his service to fix, I’ll gladly embrace.

A Spring in her Step

Our dog Coco has a spring in her step,
Each morning when it’s time for her walk.
She jumps from the couch, at the sight of her leash,
And would hug and thank me if she could talk.

She bolts to the door, her nose pressed tight,
With no patience or calm in her stride.
She runs on ahead, pulling me for a walk,
Eager to find her freedom outside.

She sniffs at the grass, to find a perfect spot,
Before performing her cute twirlly, whirly dance.
Thankful to finally relieve herself,
She vigorously wipes her paws on the grass.

Along the canal path, she joyously walks,
Nipping at my heels for me to run.
Stopping only for some craved attention,
Between chasing the ducks, just for fun.
She stops to sniff at each bush she passes,
As she carefully reads her ‘dog-mail’.
Ready to give her attentive reply,
Recognising her friends from the wag of her tail.

She nibbles some grass, her vitamins sorted,
And sniffs with delight at the find of a bone.
Her mission accomplished, her spring all sprung,
Tired, and content, she leads me back home.

Heart of the Matter - A Biblical Prose

The heart is an amazing organ; a master-piece of brilliance;
It is the alpha and the omega; the very beginning and the final end of life.
It is where your dreams are born from and where your life's treasure is stored.
It is where your love grows from and where your hate flows from;
Your heart can be grieved, troubled, offended, discouraged or broken;
It can be rebellious, stubborn, fearful, double-minded and proud.

But it can also be willing, courageous, stirred and humbled.
Your heart can be moved, refreshed, surrendered and strengthened.
We use it to seek with, to follow after or to discern with;
You speak from it, yearn from it, know in it.
It can melt, be touched, humbled and give you wisdom.
You can reflect, trust and meditate with it;
You can take things to heart, find it on your heart,
Take words to heart and do what's on your heart.

What is recorded and written on your heart, is played back in your mind.
Your plans are made in your heart, and are revealed in your thoughts.
Your decisions are carried from your gut to your heart and pumped to your brain.
Your heart carries your values, your beliefs, your secrets and your desires.
It is the core centre of who you are and how you choose to live out your life.
The blueprints of your life are imprinted on your heart, and worn on your sleeve.
Therefore, protect and guard your heart from foolishness and evil.
And circumcise your heart with righteousness, keeping it clean and pure.

Anxiety weights down your heart;
Absence of hope makes your heart sick;
A saddened heart crushes your spirit;
But a glad heart will enjoy a continual feast in life.

For to know someone’s heart is to know their very soul.
